BOOTHBAY HARBOR

Salt Point is mere minutes from its lively neighboring towns of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor, known as the "Boating Capital of New England". With miles of shoreline, these areas invite both natives and vacationers to their waters.

Whale watching, cruising, deep-sea fishing, sea kayaking, and pleasure boating are all readily accessible. Windjammers and specialty yachts delight their passengers with evening cruises as well as daily adventures to nearby islands. Daily cruises to Burnt, Damariscove, and Squirrel Islands each offer their day visitors unique opportunities to explore the history and traditions of island life. Monhegan Island, a well-known haven for artists, is visible in the distance.

Boothbay Harbor is home to New England's largest botanical garden, the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden, hosting a plethora of cultural events during the year. The community also is home to a restored Opera House, summer theaters, historic inns, a railway museum, an aquarium, an historic lighthouse, an 18-hole golf course, 1700 acres of land trust preserved for public enjoyment, and excellent schools and health care facilities. The downtown area is laden with galleries rich in the fine arts, antique and specialty shops, fine restaurants and friendly retail enterprises.

This active community enjoys its seafaring heritage with events such as the annual Windjammer Week and the Boatbuilder's Festival. The recently completed YMCA indoor pool and aquatic center punctuates its complete year-round program of activities. There is an expansive array of opportunities for residents to become involved in this vibrant and welcoming coastal community.
