Damariscotta River

DAMARISCOTTA RIVER

The twelve-mile long Damariscotta River is a treasure of aquaculture, wildlife and local history. The pristine waters of this river offer unique wildlife habitats and are the spawning grounds for the widely recognized Pemaquid oysters. The 2500 year-old oyster shell middens offer a glimpse into the rich history of this region and current stewardship of these waters are as meaningful today as they have been over its past. These waters separate the Boothbay and Pemaquid peninsulas and are laden with coves, islands and myriad opportunities for exploration, enjoyment and enrichment.
